Former Employee Accuses Meta of Misleading Advertisers and Violating Apple’s Privacy Rules
Meta Platforms (META) faces allegations from ex-employee Samujjal Purkayastha, who claims the company misled advertisers by inflating performance metrics for its 'Shops Ads' feature. Internal investigations reportedly revealed overstatements of 17% to 19%, which were not disclosed to clients. The ads, launched in 2022, enable businesses to sell products via digital storefronts on Facebook and Instagram.
Purkayastha further alleges Meta circumvented Apple's 2021 privacy reforms by tracking users without consent, violating App Tracking Transparency policies. His employment tribunal filing in London contends he was terminated after raising these concerns. While a judge acknowledged potential merit to his case, reinstatement was denied pending a full hearing.
